A Newbury taxi driver has been locked up for six years after a vicious knife attack on his wife, sparked by delusions of a fake affair with a teenager.
Psychotic Delusions Led to Violence
Mehmet Balikci, 57, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Tuesday, November 11. Jurors found him guilty back in January of actual bodily harm, common assault, and making threats to kill.
Balikci, married to Rachel Parry-Balikci for 23 years, became obsessed with an invented story about his wife cheating on him. During the trial, Mrs Parry-Balikci told the court how her husband constantly grilled her, desperate for a confession.
Chilling Threat with Knife to Neck
“If you don’t tell me the truth, I’ll kill you,” Balikci warned as he pressed a knife to his wife’s throat, pulling her head back to expose her neck.
Sentence and Restrictions
Balikci will serve up to half of his six-year sentence behind bars. He also faces an indefinite restraining order banning any contact with his wife.
