Following a garage fire on Sheila Road in Romford yesterday, firefighters have reminded residents to register their appliances.

Fire destroyed a garage at the back of a house as well as a vehicle. The fire also damaged a portion of another garage. There were no reported injuries.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers responded to more than 20 calls about the fire.

The fire is believed to have been caused by a tumble dryer.

If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it,” a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said. If you suspect a problem, unplug it immediately and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician.

“Most fires where white goods are the source of ignition are not your fault – so always register your appliances so you can be notified if any issues with the product you’ve purchased.”

The Fire Department was called at 4.30 p.m., and the fire was out by 5.20 p.m. Three fire engines and approximately 15 firefighters from Hainault, Dagenham, and Barking fire stations responded.
