Two arrests made following Deptford Murder
Detectives investigating the murder of Shevaun Sorrell in Deptford have made a second arrest. The 27-year-old manwas arrested on suspicion of murder at an address in Deptford this evening (30 August). He remains in custody at a south London police station. Earlier today, detectives arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of murder – he also remains in custody at a south London police station. Police were called on Saturday, 25 August at around 11.45pm to reports of a man found unresponsive in Creek Road, junction with Deptford Church Street, SE8. Officers and the London Ambulance Service (LAS) attended and established that the man had suffered stab injuries. Officers commenced CPR immediately. However, despite the efforts of police and LAS, he sadly died in hospital at 12.40am. The victim has been identified as Shevaun Sorrell, 22, from Deptford. A post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday, 29 August at Greenwich Mortuary and gave the cause of death as a stab wound to the chest. Detective Chief Inspector Michael Norman, who is leading the investigation, said: “This investigation is making progress but we are still appealing for witnesses to come forward. “I know members of the public saw police officers and LAS giving aid to the victim at the scene. The people I want to hear from are those who may have seen an altercation between two males or a group of males beforehand but may not have realised what had happened. We are also appealing to people who may have CCTV or dash cam footage of the incident to come forward. “Think carefully; were you in area around this time? Did you see anyone running from the scene or anyone who looked panicked? I would urge you to contact us with what you know as quickly as possible.” Enquiries continue.
