A van fire caused by a road traffic collision brought significant disruption to motorists on the A55 eastbound near the Flintshire-Cheshire border on Tuesday morning.
The incident happened at around 8am between Broughton and the Posthouse roundabout, leading to heavy delays and temporary road closures.
The road was initially closed for around 45 minutes, causing widespread delays. Some motorists reported being stuck in stationary traffic for up to 90 minutes as emergency services worked to make the area safe.

Although the road reopened partially, a lane closure remained in place until 10:35am, and residual congestion continued well into the late morning, with traffic only easing around midday.
The incident once again highlights the impact that unexpected vehicle fires and collisions can have on key transport routes, with authorities urging drivers to take extra care and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before setting off.
