The woman found dead in New Cross on Sunday, April 13 has been formally identified as Hien Vu, according to newly released court documents. The confirmation comes as Hai Nguyen, 41, of Hatfield Close, has been charged with her murder.
Metropolitan Police were called to an address on Hatfield Close in the early hours of Sunday morning following reports of a seriously injured woman. Emergency services arrived at the scene, but despite their efforts, Ms Vu, believed to be in her 40s, was pronounced dead shortly after.
Just minutes later, at 6.52am, a man self-presented at Lewisham Police Station in connection with the incident. He was arrested on suspicion of murder and later charged.
Nguyen appeared in Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 14, where the case was formally opened. Police have confirmed that the victim and suspect were known to each other, although no further details about their relationship have been disclosed.
Ongoing Investigation
The Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the investigation. A post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said:
“At this early stage, we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Ms Vu, and they are being supported by specially trained officers.”
Community Response
The incident has left the New Cross community in shock, with local residents describing the area as “usually quiet and close-knit.” Floral tributes have begun appearing near Hatfield Close as neighbours express their condolences.
