Young Child Found on M25 Hard Shoulder Sparks Police Concern in Kent

A young child was discovered walking alone on the hard shoulder of the M25 near Brasted earlier this month, prompting an emergency response and raising serious safety concerns.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:07pm on Monday, April 7, when Kent Police were alerted to a report of a child seen dangerously close to fast-moving traffic on one of the UK’s busiest motorways.

According to police, the child is believed to have gained access to the hard shoulder from a nearby property. A member of the public spotted the youngster and assisted them to safety before authorities arrived.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for Kent Police said:

“Kent Police was called at 12.07pm on April 7, 2025, to concerns for the welfare of a young child seen on the hard shoulder of the M25 near Brasted.
A member of the public assisted the child who was reported to have gained access to the hard shoulder from a nearby property.
Patrols visited the property and spoke to the child’s family, who had also been searching for him. Welfare checks were made and safety advice was provided.”

Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the child was safely reunited with their family. However, the close call has served as a reminder of the importance of securing access points to major roads, particularly near residential areas.

Community Reaction

Local residents have expressed both relief and concern following the incident. Many took to social media to praise the quick actions of the passer-by who helped the child and to call for improved fencing or barriers near homes adjacent to the motorway.

Authorities have not disclosed the age of the child but emphasised that the incident has prompted a welfare review and further safety guidance to the family.

No further police action is expected at this time, but Kent Police reiterated the importance of immediately reporting any concerns involving children near roads or other hazardous environments.
