A Birmingham man has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after savagely attacking and raping a woman in Walsall. Simon Tang, 56, was found guilty at Birmingham Crown Court for the horrific assault on a sex worker near a Birmingham Street car park on 5 May last year.

Baseball Bat Attack Leaves Victim Brutally Injured

During the attack, Tang pulled a baseball bat from his car’s boot and repeatedly struck the victim. She suffered severe bruising to her legs and head, highlighting the viciousness of the assault. Specialist public protection officers worked closely with the victim to build a strong case against him.

Found Guilty of Multiple Charges

  • Two counts of rape
  • Possession of an offensive weapon
  • Actual bodily harm

Tang, who lives on Weoley Castle Road, Birmingham, was sentenced to 12-and-a-half years in prison on Monday. He will also serve an extended licence period and is to remain on the Sexual Offender Register for life.

The judge set Tang’s sentencing date for January 30, but the jail term means he will now spend over a decade behind bars for his brutal crimes.
