Ten fire engines have descended on the scene, with around 70 firefighters battling fierce flames engulfing the two-storey building. Two towering 32-metre turntable ladders are unleashing torrents of water from above, fighting to bring the inferno under control.

Station Commander Tony Perks, speaking from the scene, urged caution:

“Crews are making steady progress and are expected to remain here for several hours tonight. The fire is producing smoke, so residents and businesses nearby should keep windows and doors shut.”

Emergency Crews Rush From Across Croydon

The first emergency call came in at 4:26pm, triggering a rapid response from fire stations across Croydon, Purley, Wallington, Norbury, Mitcham, and beyond.

Causes of the blaze are still unknown as firefighters continue to battle the ferocious fire.
