Coastguard Rescue Helicopter scrambled to Save Heart Attack Patient from the Isle of Wight

A Coastguard rescue helicopter from Lee on the Solent has  been scrambled to fly a seriously ill patient to the Queen Alexandra Hospital  in Cosham this evening.

Two coastguard search and rescue  team from Newport and Portsmouth where also involved in the Boxing Day life saving mission that took place just after 7pm on Boxing day evening.  Coastguard members from Newport manned the Helicopter landing pad at St Mary’s in Newport.
The rescue helicopter was called upon due to no ferries running between the Isle of Wight and due to the serious condition of the patient.  The patient was pick up and flown  from St Mary’s hospital. Three medical staff also flew with the very sick patient who were met at  the Horsea landing site in Portsmouth  by members of  Portsmouth coastguard team.  The patient was than transferred to a land ambulance to complete the short journey to hospital in Cosham. The operation was coordinated by the UK Coastguard operation  in Fareham.
