Fire crews called to blaze at recycling centre in Marchwood

Ten  fire crews from across Hampshire have  been called  to tackle blaze that has broken out at the Biffa recycling centre. Fire crews were called just after 12:30 pm to a unit containing recycled waste. No one is believed to have been hurt at the plant and all the staff are accounted for. Fire crews are attempting to stop the blaze from spreading to neighbouring units. Fire Crews are likely to be at the Biffa recycling for at least 24 hours tackling the blaze involving 450 tons of rubbish. Fire fighters are breaking windows on the sides of the building to vent the unit that is approx 90 meters by 60 metes wide. Fire crews efforts are being hampered due to the nature of the waste and the piles being approx 18-20 foot high.
