Fire Crews called to Electricity Sub Station Fire in Fareham

A fire and a explosion at an electricity substation in Fareham has caused power cuts for up to 10,000 Homes and Businesses in the Fareham and Portchester area Power is expected to be restored by 2pm this afternoon (Thursday 1st June 2017) There are reports that the power outage has also affected businesses and Car parks in the Fareham area. It was reported at 12pm on Thursday that the substation on the Harland Road in the Fareham had caught fire. Three Crews from Porchester, Fareham and Southsea were called to extinguish the fire and make the area safe. A spokesman from Hampshire Fire said the substation appeared to have been extensively damaged and that three cars had been damaged by following an explosion. Firefighters had had to make the site safe before SSE engineers could carry out their repairs.
