Two South Yorkshire police officers were hailed as heroes after pulling two men from a burning car just seconds before it erupted in flames in Rotherham.
Quick-Thinking Officers Spot Smoky Crash
PCs Matt Parkes and Lauren Taylor were on a routine proactive patrol in the Moorgate area when they spotted a car lying on its side, smoke pouring out on Moorgate Road. They wasted no time. The officers rushed over and found the driver trapped and in shock inside the wreckage.
Second Victim Freed as Flames Ignite
As they assisted the driver, the vehicle suddenly caught fire. PC Parkes and PC Taylor then found a second man inside, his seatbelt jammed tight.
Showing lightning-fast bravery, they freed the passenger and dragged both men to safety just moments before the car was fully engulfed in flames.
Police Praise Officers’ “Outstanding Bravery”
Rotherham Response Chief Inspector Kay Fitzgerald said: “They immediately acted, putting their own safety at risk to ensure the two occupants were saved from serious harm.” “Their actions exemplify one of our core duties as police officers – to protect lives. They are a credit to the force. I hope the public will join me in thanking them for potentially saving these two men’s lives.”
