Footballer-turned-defendant jailed
Ex-football pro Joey Barton, 43, has been remanded in custody following an assault charge at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court. District Judge James Hatton refused Barton bail, meaning he’ll face Liverpool Crown Court next month. His co-accused, Gary O’Grady, 50, was allowed bail.
Serious golf club attack leaves victim fearing eye loss
The alleged victim, Kevin Lynch, 51, a married dad-of-two, was attacked on Sunday evening at Huyton and Prescot Golf Club. He sustained facial injuries so severe that there are fears he may lose sight in one eye. Police have described his condition as serious but stable in the hospital.
Barton slammed with eye-watering libel damages to Eni Aluko
In a separate High Court ruling the same day, Barton has been ordered to pay more than £300,000 to former England star and pundit Eni Aluko. The footballer-turned-pundit won her libel case after Barton made 48 defamatory posts on the social media platform X between January and August 2024.
