Major Blow as Top Brand Pulls out of Southsea Town

A struggling town centre has been left reeling as a major High Street name is set to close. Laura Ashley Home Furnishing & Fashion in Palmerston Road is the latest retailer to pull out of the beleaguered shopping centre. The retail unit will join Heidi’s Patesserie two doors away, and the former Garage Lounge branch, in presenting a decidedly ‘vacant’ look to the street. Laura Ashley, an archetypal British brand, made floral prints and pastel shades a major trend amongst middle-class suburban housewives nationwide in the 1980s. The branch, which has been trading for almost two decades, is set to close at the beginning of July and is offering a massive 70% off wallpapers, as well as 60% off bed linens, lighting, paint and display products, in its closing down sale.
