A 78-year-old man has been arrested in connection with vandalism at James Bulger’s grave in Merseyside. The grim discovery was made at Kirkdale Cemetery on Friday afternoon.
Police Quickly Nab Suspect
- Merseyside Police were called to the scene at around 1:20pm on 10 April after damage was reported.
- The suspect, a Kirkby resident, was arrested at 4:10pm on suspicion of criminal damage and theft.
- He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Temporary Detective Inspector Viki Lanceley slammed the act and promised continued support for James’s family. She said, “I would encourage anyone with information to come forward directly to the police as soon as possible.” Witnesses or those with information are urged to quote reference number 26000282253 when contacting police via 101 or social media. Not the First Attack on James Bulger’s Grave
The grave suffered similar damage in February, with two statues smashed in the same brutal manner. James’s mother, Denise Fergus, expressed her heartbreak following the earlier destruction. A public appeal raised over £23,000 to repair the damage, with the family deeply touched by the outpouring of support.
