Edward Watson Locked Up for Decades-Old Crimes
A Margate man has been slammed with a jail sentence for sexually abusing a child over a brutal seven-year period. Edward Watson, once of Garrard Avenue, started his vile attacks in 1990 when the victim was just a child, and he was about 13.
Watson repeatedly assaulted the youngster, often locking them in a room before committing the sick offences. The abuse stayed hidden until September 2023, when the victim finally told a trusted family member, prompting a swift police investigation.
Police Act Fast After Harrowing Revelations
Kent Police moved quickly. Just three days after the victim’s disclosure, Watson was arrested. He was hit with 12 charges, including gross indecency, indecent assault, and unlawful sexual intercourse.
