In the West Wight area around 75km of road have already been resurfaced under the Highways PFI Partnership including large sections of the main roads into and out of the area like Forest Road, Bouldnor Road, the Military Road and Middle Road. Brighstone Viaduct has also been upgraded recently in another major scheme.
Local residents can expect to receive letters in advance of the works providing more details and any specific requirements including the temporary relocation of their cars during the works. Works remain subject to change due to weather or other external factors beyond Island Roads control, but yellow advance notice boards providing the specific timing of any the resurfacing work will be used on site to keep residents informed. Steve Ashman, Service Director for Island Roads said: While residents are already benefitting from many of the major routes through the West Wight that have now been resurfaced, the summer months provides an opportunity for us to look at some of the smaller residential streets without causing disruption to this beautiful part of the Island that is so popular with tourists during the summer months. We would like to thank residents for bearing with us whilst these works are completed and hope that the noticeable improvements that they will bring will offset any short-term disruption.
