Awkward Throwback Sparks Outrage
The BBC is once again in hot water after a 2007 clip emerged online showing Chris Moyles admitting he offered to take Charlotte Church’s virginity when she was just 15. At the time, Moyles was 27 or 28, making the remarks even more controversial. Church, who turned 16 in 2002, later confronted Moyles live during an interview about the jaw-dropping offer.
Moyles’ ‘Cheeky’ Joke or Something Worse?
Despite the shocking nature of the exchange, Moyles tried to brush it off, even calling his offer “quite sweet” as he joked about “leading Charlotte through the…” The clip, shared by Emma Dunwell on Twitter, has sparked outrage in 2026, with many saying Moyles would be cancelled instantly if this happened today.
“Yikes. Imagine this exact conversation happening in 2026? Moyles would be cancelled so fast his head would spin.”
The BBC defended Moyles back then, attributing the comments to his “cheeky” and “irreverent” humour, insisting they weren’t meant to be taken seriously. But public opinion now is very different – especially as the BBC stresses they wouldn’t tolerate such behaviour in the present day.
BBC Distance Themselves – Moyles Hasn’t Worked There for 14 Years
A BBC spokesperson said Moyles hasn’t been with the corporation for over 14 years and highlighted that “no circumstances in which similar language or behaviour would be tolerated by the BBC today.” But critics are questioning if that’s enough, given the nature of the clip. Interestingly, at the time, some media outlets openly countdown the seconds until Charlotte Church’s 16th birthday – a sign of a very different, more scandal-hungry era.
