The Royal Mint has unveiled its plans to release five new coin designs in 2024, celebrating various aspects of British heritage and culture, including Buckingham Palace and Sir Winston Churchill.
The 2024 Annual Set of Commemorative Coins will feature designs honouring significant events and anniversaries set to take place in the upcoming year. These designs will be available in a range of precious metal and base-proof finishes and will be accessible for purchase from January 2, 2024, via the Royal Mint website, with prices starting at £34.50.
The Royal Mint also revealed that some of these coins will be available for individual purchase throughout the year. The coins included in the 2024 Annual Set are the Buckingham Palace £5 coin, National Gallery UK £2 coin, RNLI UK 50p coin, Team GB 50p coin, and ParalympicsGB UK 50p coin. Additionally, Sir Winston Churchill’s 2024 UK £2 coin will be part of the 2024 Annual Sets and may feature in other sets and product formats in the future.
Rebecca Morgan, director of commemorative coins at the Royal Mint, expressed excitement about the upcoming releases, saying, “As we approach the new year, we are excited to reveal five new designs set to appear on commemorative coins in 2024, celebrating some of the most significant moments and anniversaries set to take place.”
She added, “The Royal Mint has been regularly issuing Annual Sets since 1971, and they have become highly collectable as works of art. They are also gifted to people celebrating special occasions in the upcoming year, as they serve as a keepsake of that memorable time.”

- Buckingham Palace £5 Coin: This coin features the architecture of Buckingham Palace, designed by artist Henry Gray, and marks the significance of this iconic British landmark.
- Sir Winston Churchill £2 Coin: To honour the 150th anniversary of Sir Winston Churchill’s birth, this coin depicts a portrait of him as a young man in 1895, wearing the uniform of the 4th Queen’s Own Hussars. The edge inscription reads, “Pave the way for peace and freedom.”
- National Gallery UK £2 Coin: Designed by Edwina Ellis, this coin celebrates the 200th anniversary of the National Gallery and showcases the gallery building at its centre.
- RNLI UK 50p Coin: Created by John Bergdahl, this coin marks the 200th anniversary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) and features the RNLI flag surrounded by a life ring, symbolizing the organization’s life-saving efforts at sea.
- Team GB and ParalympicsGB 50p Coin: Designed by Charis Tsevis, this coin wishes both Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes the best of luck at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, depicting two athletes representing both events in parity.
