Hendon Town Hall Glows Green to Honour Grenfell Victims

Hendon Town Hall was illuminated in green last night as part of the nationwide Green for Grenfell tribute, marking the eighth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, which claimed 72 lives on 14 June 2017.

Barnet Council joined thousands across the UK in honouring the memory of those lost and in solidarity with the survivors and the wider community still seeking justice and accountability.

The green lighting of public buildings has become a powerful symbol of remembrance and unity, reflecting ongoing support for the victims and their families.

A Barnet Council spokesperson said:

“We remember those who tragically lost their lives in the Grenfell Tower fire and stand with the survivors, their families, and all those affected. Lighting up Hendon Town Hall in green is our way of paying tribute and reaffirming our commitment to community safety.”

What is Green for Grenfell Day?

Launched in the aftermath of the fire, Green for Grenfell Day encourages schools, councils, and communities across the country to show support through green-themed tributes. It has become a symbol of compassion, resilience, and the drive for safer housing.

Local Jewish organisations also paid their respects. Rabbi Michael Keller of North West London Synagogue said:

“The memory of Grenfell is etched into our collective conscience. As a community, we stand united in grief and action.”
