A horrific terrorist attack unfolded in New Orleans’ French Quarter early Wednesday, as a white Ford SUV plowed into crowds of revelers celebrating the New Year on Bourbon Street. The rampage left 10 people dead and 30 others injured, in an incident that the FBI is now investigating as an act of terrorism.
The tragedy occurred around 3:15 a.m. local time when the SUV, rented through the Turo car-sharing app, struck pedestrians. The driver, who has not yet been publicly identified, exited the vehicle and began firing at police, injuring two officers. Law enforcement returned fire, killing the suspect at the scene.

Images of the suspect’s vehicle circulating online have sparked widespread speculation, particularly over a flagpole mounted at the back of the SUV. Initially appearing to hold a black flag earlier in the evening, it was later photographed with what seemed to be a metallic gray jacket draped over it.
