A boater discovered 65 pounds of cocaine, valued at an estimated $1 million, floating in the Florida Keys, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The packages, adorned with images of bald eagles, were found around noon on Saturday. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reported that “mariners in a private vessel found a package containing approximately 21 individually wrapped kilograms of suspected cocaine.
The discovery was made approximately seven miles off the coast of Islamorada. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office shared images of the packages on Facebook, highlighting the distinctive bald eagle emblems on the front.
The U.S. Border Patrol will seize the drugs. Acting Chief Patrol Agent Samuel Briggs II expressed gratitude for the assistance from the public, saying, “We appreciate the support from good Samaritans who turned in the drugs.
