Donald Trump has confirmed the construction of a huge underground military facility right under his planned White House ballroom. Describing the nuclear-hardened bunker as “essential” for our modern security threats, the President lifted the lid on this covert build during an Air Force One briefing.
Massive Fortified Complex to Replace Old Emergency Centre
The new subterranean installation is set to replace the original Presidential Emergency Operations Centre, built after Pearl Harbour in the 1940s. “The military is building a massive complex under the ballroom, and that’s under construction, and we’re doing very well,” Trump said. He added that the above-ground ballroom will feature bulletproof glass and drone-proof roofs.
The ballroom project is a controversial £400 million private venture funded by Trump and supporters. It involves tearing down the East Wing to make way for a 90,000 square foot reception space – the biggest White House structural change since Truman’s balcony in 1948.
“It’s Just a Shed” Hiding a Fortress Below
Trump described the ballroom as “a shed” masking the underground command centre. Plans show the structure will match the White House’s height but cover a larger area than the original building.
“The glass on the windows is extremely thick – it’s high-grade bulletproof glass,” the President explained. He said news about the bunker leaked “because of a stupid lawsuit that was filed.”
Last year, Secret Service docs warned that halting construction would pose a “national security concern.” Despite the lack of formal planning approval and public backlash, demolition began in October.
Designed for Global Diplomatic Firepower
Trump defended the expansion saying the existing 200-person ballroom is too small for hosting major dignitaries like China’s President Xi. “We have very small rooms that are not big enough to handle the kind of capacity that you need,” he said.
“This is the same height as the White House – it’s an incredible fit. I think it’ll be the finest ballroom of its kind anywhere in the world.”
Admitting he was “so busy,” Trump made the announcement from Air Force One, saying: “I don’t have time to do this. I’m fighting wars and other things. But this is important because this is going to be with us for a long time.”
Striking photos show heavy machinery smashing through the East Wing’s facade, scattering building debris across the White House grounds – all without approved permits.
