Thousands of faulty three-pin plugs installed in new-build homes across the UK have been recalled due to a serious fire hazard, prompting urgent warnings from safety regulators.

Trade Fittings Direct Limited has issued an emergency product recall for 13amp and 3amp three-pin plugs after severe overheating and melting issues were detected. The recall follows concerns raised by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS), which found that the plugs pose a high risk of fire, sparking, and electrocution.

The faulty plugs were sold and installed between 1 September 2023 and 30 December 2024 and have been widely used in appliances such as:
