Wiltshire Police have launched an investigation following a spate of van break-ins across the county, resulting in the theft of tens of thousands of pounds worth of power tools. More than 45 incidents have been reported in recent weeks, with the majority occurring in Salisbury. However, similar thefts have been reported in other areas, including Amesbury, Warminster, and Swindon.
Authorities believe the incidents may be linked to the same group of offenders, with similar crimes reported in neighbouring police forces.
In the meantime, van owners are being advised to take precautions to protect their vehicles and tools:
- Park in well-lit, secure areas where vehicles can be easily seen.
- Remove or hide valuable tools when leaving vans unattended.
- Use signs that indicate no tools are left in the vehicle.
- Mark tools and vans with identifiable markers or paint to aid recovery if stolen.
- Reverse park to limit access to the side and back doors.
- Consider using visible deterrents such as steering locks.
Wiltshire Police have dedicated resources to locate the suspects and are committed to ensuring they are brought to justice.
