Controlled Explosion on West Wittering Beach

On the afternoon of 26th May 2024, at 3:26 PM, the Selsey Coastguard Team was paged following reports of possible ordnance found on West Wittering Beach. Upon arrival, the team promptly took photos of the suspected ordnance and sent them to the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (E.O.D) Team for assessment.

A safety cordon was established around the area to ensure public safety until the E.O.D Team arrived. After their arrival, the E.O.D Team conducted a controlled explosion on the beach to safely neutralise the threat.

Authorities urge the public to exercise caution and refrain from touching any suspicious items found on the beach. Instead, they should immediately contact the Coastguard for assistance.
