Firefighter Seriously Injured In Hit-And-Run Incident In Corby

A firefighter is in the hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene of the accident. The driver of a Peugeot hit two pedestrians before driving off without stopping. The incident occurred on Saturday 11th August at around 23:00 hrs on George Street, Corby. One of the pedestrians, an on-duty firefighter, was rushed to hospital with a number of serious injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening. The second person hit by the vehicle did not require any medical attention. The vehicle involved in the incident was later found by Police abandoned in near-by Studfall Avenue. Chief fire officer Darren Dovey, from Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, told the Northamptonshire Telegraph: ‘I am thankful that our firefighter did not suffer life-threatening injuries in the incident, however, he does remain in hospital with what doctors are describing as a range of serious injuries. ‘We continue to provide support to him, his family and colleagues who were left very shaken by the incident and aim to help him return to work when he is fully recovered’.
