In a landmark case, four members of Britain’s richest family have been sentenced to prison after being found guilty of exploiting their workers and providing unauthorized employment. Prakash Hinduja, his wife Kamal, their son Ajay, and his wife Namrata received sentences ranging from four to four-and-a-half years in prison. The sentencing follows their conviction by a Swiss court.
Despite the verdicts, the family members were acquitted of more serious charges of human trafficking. The court concluded that the servants, who were primarily illiterate individuals from India, were aware of the conditions of their employment at the Hinduja’s lakeside villa in Geneva.
