Investigation Opened Following Alleged Rape Of Irish Rugby Supporter In Bordeaux During Rugby World Cup

In a distressing turn of events, French prosecutors have initiated an investigation following allegations of sexual assault made by an Irish rugby supporter during the Rugby World Cup hosted by France. The reported incident occurred late on Saturday, sending shockwaves through the international sporting community.

The victim, an Irish national, was said to have been raped in Bordeaux shortly after Ireland’s triumphant victory over Romania in the southwestern city. The incident has cast a shadow over what was supposed to be a joyous celebration of rugby and sportsmanship.

After the ordeal, the survivor promptly contacted local law enforcement. In response, members of An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s police force, who had been specially deployed in Bordeaux to assist Irish citizens attending the Rugby World Cup, took her statement. An Garda Síochána released a statement confirming their involvement in the investigation, stating, “Members who are currently deployed in France for the duration of the Rugby World Cup tournament to assist Irish people visiting France are liaising with local authorities in relation to an alleged incident.” However, they emphasised that the matter falls within the jurisdiction of French police.

French authorities have wasted no time in pursuing the case. Forensic tests are currently underway to gather crucial evidence, while surveillance footage from the area’s video protection cameras is being meticulously examined in the effort to identify and locate the alleged attackers.
