Man sentenced following attacks in Bow

A man suffering with severe mental health issues has been sentenced after a series of knife attacks in Bow. Jeffrey Shing-lok Leung, 41 of Guerin Square, Malmesbury Road, E3 appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 25 July and was sentenced to an indefinite hospital order. On the 18 December, 2018, at 11:00am, Leung began his assault when he approached a GP surgery in Bow with four knives he had bought online. He first slashed the neck of a man in his 30’s as he entered Tredegar Practise, before lunging at multiple different people in the waiting area, injuring another man in his 30’s who sustained stab injuries to the chest and stomach. Members of the public defended themselves with chairs, barricaded themselves behind doors and in toilets as he continued his tirade. Leung then left the practise and made his way towards St Stephens Health Centre. Here, he carried on attacking innocent members of the public, starting with an elderly woman in her 70’s, stabbing her in the neck, chest and hand. Another woman in her 50’s was attacked by Leung at the second location, suffering stab wounds also to her hand and chest. A receptionist within the health centre called police via 999. Leung then calmed down and sat in the waiting room, dropping both knives and waited for officers to arrive and arrest him. Leung was not known to police before the incident but was known to have a history of mental health issues. DC Megan Bushell of the Central East CID, led the investigation and said: “Leung has unfortunately suffered from severe mental health disorders in the past and this has led him to carry out a series of sustained violent attacks. “All of the victims and witnesses involved in this horrific incident have been left traumatised.”
