In a significant development that has raised concerns globally, a senior Russian diplomat has stated that Moscow would only resume nuclear tests if the United States were to initiate such actions first. Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov announced that if the US were to conduct a nuclear test, Russia would be compelled to “mirror” that action.
The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty, which was adopted in 1996, prohibits nuclear explosions anywhere in the world. However, despite being signed by both Russian and US presidents, the treaty has never been fully implemented due to the lack of ratification by the US.
