Two men have been taken to the hospital, and five men have been arrested following an armed burglary that took place in Lewisham. The incident occurred on Lee High Road in the early hours of yesterday morning (July 17) at approximately 4 am when police officers on patrol were alerted to an aggravated burglary.
Armed police and the police helicopter were dispatched to the scene in response to the incident. According to reports, a group of individuals armed with weapons, including a firearm, forcibly entered a property where several males were playing a card game. The suspects stole various items, including cash and jewellery, before fleeing the scene.
Two of the individuals present on the property during the burglary sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Fortunately, their injuries were not life-threatening.
Close to the scene, five men in their 20s were detained by the Armed Police During the operation, a holdall containing a firearm and class-A drugs was recovered from a parked car. Another holdall containing items believed to be stolen was also found nearby.
All five men have been arrested on suspicion of offences including possession of a firearm, aggravated burglary, and possession with intent to supply class A drugs. They remain in custody while detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Flying Squad continue their investigation into the incident. Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the armed burglary are still ongoing.
