Emergency services were called to the Grahame Park Regeneration area in Colindale, North London, after a man escaped police custody and entered a 40-square-metre lake on Friday, November 15, 2024.
The Metropolitan Police quickly established a containment area around the lake following the man’s escape at approximately 4:00 pm. Officers engaged in dialogue with the individual in an attempt to bring the situation to a safe resolution.
The London Fire Brigade was also deployed to assist with the incident, providing equipment and personnel to ensure the safety of the man, emergency responders, and the public.
A police spokesperson stated:
“Officers have responded to a complex and sensitive incident involving a detainee who escaped custody and entered the water. Our priority is the safety and well-being of everyone involved. We are working closely with the London Fire Brigade to resolve the situation as quickly and safely as possible.”
At this stage, the circumstances surrounding the man’s detention and subsequent escape remain unclear. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the man’s identity or why he was in custody.
Residents in the area have been advised to avoid the scene while emergency services work to resolve the incident.
