A 44-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a 21-year-old man in Deptford.

Dalziell Wedderburn, 44, stands accused of murdering Robert Robinson, who was fatally stabbed on Carteret Way late on Thursday night (June 6).

Wedderburn was one of two men arrested shortly after the incident. He was charged with murder on Sunday (June 9) and is set to appear in custody at Bromley Magistrates’ Court today (June 10).

The second man arrested, who is 50 years old, has been released on bail pending further inquiries, with a bail date set for early September.

Police were called to Carteret Way at 10:35 pm on Thursday (June 6) following reports of a stabbing. Emergency services attended, but despite their best efforts, the victim died at the scene. The victim was identified as 21-year-old Robert Robinson, who lived locally. His family has been informed.

A post-mortem examination conducted on Saturday (June 8) determined the cause of Robert’s death to be multiple incised wounds.

Detective Inspector Neil Tovey, who is leading the Met’s homicide investigation, said: “This is a horrific crime committed by persons who chose to arm themselves with weapons and blight our communities. A young man has died in brutal circumstances, and his family is grieving.

“We need to piece together the events which led to the attack on Robert. The incident took place on a residential street, Carteret Way, at a time when many people are likely to have been at home. I believe the local community holds the key to solving this crime, and any information, no matter how small, may assist us in obtaining justice for Robert’s family.”

Anyone with information is urged to call 101 and quote CAD8733/6June.

The investigation continues, and the police are appealing to the public for any footage or information that may help in solving this case.
