A property on The Grove Way has been slapped with a premises closure order following a string of shocking criminal damage incidents and suspicions it was running as a brothel.
Vandal Attacks Spark Neighbourhood Chaos
The leasehold property, licensed for private renting and let out on a short-term rental agreement, was targeted multiple times. Trouble kicked off on Tuesday, September 30, when black oil was hurled across its windows and doors — spilling onto neighbouring homes too.
The chaos didn’t stop there. Red paint was later splashed on nearby properties and vehicles. Then, on Saturday, October 18, vandals struck again, smashing windows and dousing more paint.
Council and Police Act Swiftly to Close Property
Backing from police paved the way for the council to secure a closure order at Barkingside Magistrates Court. The order bans the leaseholder, tenant, or anyone else from setting foot inside until January 29, 2026.
“This closure sends a clear message that we will not tolerate properties being used for criminal activities,” said Councillor Syed Ghani, cabinet member for enforcement and community safety.
“The repeated criminal damage incidents caused significant distress to residents, and we acted swiftly with the police to put a stop to it.”
“We urge landlords to take their responsibilities seriously and carry out proper checks when letting properties, especially on short-term agreements.”

Barking and Dagenham Council is sounding the alarm for landlords to stay vigilant. Short-term lets must be closely screened to prevent them being misused for illegal or immoral activities that ruin communities.
