A 45-year-old man from Scunthorpe, Alan Wigglesworth, was found guilty of abusing two vulnerable teenage girls. The verdict came after a gripping five-day trial at Grimsby Crown Court that wrapped up on 28 November 2025.

Seven Counts of Sexual Abuse Revealed

The jury unanimously convicted Wigglesworth of multiple offences, including:

  • Two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13
  • Two counts of sexual assault
  • Causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity
  • Assault by penetration
  • Inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity

Wigglesworth denied all charges but was found guilty of manipulating and abusing the two 13-year-old girls over an extended period by using alcohol and threats.

Justice Set for February as Offender Awaits Sentence

Remanded in custody, Wigglesworth will face sentencing on 6 February 2026 at Grimsby Crown Court. His courtroom denial “forced the victims through further trauma,” says DC Nathan LeQuelenec from Humberside Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit.

“He cruelly took advantage of them, luring them in to sexually assault and abuse them all for his own perverse sexual gratification. “Wigglesworth’s refusal to admit guilt and forcing the victims and families through trial could be seen as another twisted ploy to control them and appease his detestable behaviour.”

Police Praise Victims’ Courage and Call for More Reports

DC LeQuelenec commended the girls, saying: “I’d like to commend the victims for first disclosing what was happening to a trusted adult and for their patience and maturity throughout a very lengthy process.”

He urged anyone suffering in silence to come forward, emphasising support is available:

  • “We will continue prosecuting offenders without mercy.”
  • “If you’re a victim or suspect abuse, report it to us or a trusted adult.”
  • “You can also contact specialist support networks confidentially before making a report.”

The force remains committed to protecting vulnerable people and pursuing justice for victims of sexual abuse.
