A driver has been arrested for a string of serious offences following a traffic stop by Roads Policing officers in Banbury on Friday, which also saw two police officers assaulted during the incident.

The vehicle was pulled over during a routine patrol, but the situation quickly escalated. Officers discovered multiple criminal and traffic offences, and the driver was subsequently taken into custody.

List of Offences

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Theft of a motor vehicle
  • Possession with intent to supply drugs
  • Drug driving
  • Driving with no insurance
  • Driving without a license
  • Criminal damage to a police vehicle
  • Assault on two police officers

During the arrest, two officers were assaulted, highlighting the growing concern over attacks on emergency workers while performing their duties.

Police Condemn Assault on Officers

A spokesperson from the Roads Policing Unit condemned the violence, stating:

“Assaults on emergency workers are completely unacceptable. Our officers work tirelessly to keep our roads and communities safe, and they should never have to face violence for simply doing their job.”

The officers involved received medical attention at the scene and are recovering well, according to police sources.

Investigation Ongoing

The arrested individual remains in custody while enquiries continue, and additional charges may be brought pending further investigation and evidence review.
