Dan Wootton, the executive editor and presenter of Dan Wootton Tonight on GB News, has responded to recent allegations made against him by his ex-partner. The 40-year-old presenter, known for his previous roles at The Sun and as a showbiz journalist, opened his show with a statement addressing the claims that he paid for videos of sexual activity.
While not directly acknowledging the allegations, Wootton labelled the claims circulating on social media as a “smear campaign” orchestrated by “nefarious players with an axe to grind.” He expressed discomfort in being the subject of the story but emphasised the show’s commitment to impartiality, stating, “I’ve always promised you that this show has no spin, and no bias, and no censorship, so I owe it to you to address this.”
Referring to social media as a “cesspit” where he had been targeted, Wootton firmly stated that the criminal allegations made against him are “simply untrue.” The presenter, who hails from New Zealand, recently returned from visiting family in his home country.
However, Mr Wooton has been known for controversial posts on social media including ‘shaming’ an elderly couple for wearing face masks after the pandemic with the word Why?
The allegations were initially published by Byline Times and subsequently covered by The Guardian. They primarily focus on Wootton’s time working at The Sun and the Mail. As the broadcaster returned to air on Monday evening, both GB News and Wootton’s former employers faced mounting pressure to respond to the claims made in the article.
As of now, GB News has not provided any official comment regarding the allegations. Wootton, whose career include breaking the story of Megxit during his time at The Sun, has become a prominent presenter at GB News and a columnist for MailOnline, which is owned by DMG Media—a publisher of the Daily Mail newspaper.
