London Underground drivers, represented by the Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (Aslef), have announced strike action for July 26 and 28 as part of an ongoing dispute over pensions and working conditions. This strike coincides with industrial action planned by members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT).
Finn Brennan, Aslef’s full-time organizer on London Underground, stated that the decision to strike was necessary due to the determination of London Underground management to implement detrimental changes despite opposition from trade unions. Brennan criticized the management’s plan to introduce a new attendance procedure, which would remove the right to representation or appeal at the disciplinary process’s initial stage and extend the length of warnings.
