Motorists travelling on the M2 motorway between junctions 5 and 7 are set to face major disruptions throughout September as essential bridge repair works are carried out. The repairs, scheduled between 29 August and 27 September 2024, will focus on replacing expansion joints, waterproofing, and resurfacing to maintain the structural integrity of the bridges.
To safely complete the work, there will be a series of overnight and weekend closures of the M2, causing significant delays for travellers. Full details of the closures are as follows:
Potential Weekend Closures:
- 20 September weekend for the eastbound carriageway, and
- 27 September weekend for the westbound carriageway are also scheduled in case of delays or additional work requirements.
Diversions will be in place via the A249, M20, A20, A2, and back to the M2 for eastbound closures. For westbound closures, the diversion will follow the same route but in reverse. Motorists are urged to avoid the A251, where utility works are expected to take place in September.
Drivers are encouraged to check for live updates on the latest closures and diversions via Traffic England and the National Highways‘ travel alerts. Due to potential weather-related changes, the public is advised to plan ahead for alternative routes and to allow extra time for travel.
