A 32-year-old man has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple offences related to indecent images of children and breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) while staying in Wiltshire.
Court Sentencing
Jason King, of North Ferriby, North Humberside, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 14 February after admitting to making and distributing indecent images of children, including the most serious Category A content.
King’s crimes took place between November 2023 and May 2024, during which he engaged in disturbing online activities, including sexual communication with a child while staying overnight in Chicklade, Wiltshire. This breach of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order was a key factor in his sentencing.
After serving his prison sentence, King will remain on licence for an additional two and a half years and will be subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Disturbing Online Activity
Detective Constable Anthony Swift, from the Child Internet Exploitation Team, described the case as one of the most disturbing his team had encountered:
“King was convicted of multiple distribution and making of indecent images of children. While staying overnight in Chicklade, he engaged in sexual communications with a child, violating his Sexual Harm Prevention Order—an order put in place to protect the public from sexual harm.”
He added:
“King was also found to be having conversations with other sex offenders online, which contained some of the most horrific content that experienced investigators had ever encountered.”
The investigation into King has already led to further suspects being identified and arrested by other UK police forces.
Protecting the Public
Wiltshire Police have reinforced their commitment to monitoring and enforcing Sexual Harm Prevention Orders to prevent further harm to vulnerable children.
Anyone concerned about an individual’s behaviour towards a child is encouraged to use Sarah’s Law, also known as the Child Sex Offender Disclosure Scheme, which allows parents, carers, and guardians to find out if someone may pose a risk.
