A Metropolitan Police officer has been fired without warning after sexually assaulting a woman while off duty at a beauty clinic.
Off-Duty Attack at Beauty Clinic
On 3 August 2022, PC Mark Thomas was working at a beauty clinic when he sexually assaulted a female client during a treatment. Although he was off duty, his shocking behaviour has cost him his job.
Investigation and Police Response
Cambridgeshire Police investigated the incident, and PC Thomas, who worked in Met Operations, was arrested. However, the criminal probe was dropped due to insufficient evidence.
Detective Chief Superintendent Simon Stancombe, Professional Standards, said: “PC Thomas’ actions were particularly disturbing given his attempts to use the beauty treatment as a cover to commit the offence. This must have been an awful experience for the victim, and I commend them for coming forward. We continue to go above and beyond to rid the organisation of those who corrupt our integrity.”
Disciplinary Action and Professional Ban
An internal panel found PC Thomas guilty of breaching professional standards including authority misuse, disrespect, and discreditable conduct. He has been removed from policing forever.
- Dismissed without notice
- Added to the College of Policing’s Barred List
- Banned from all police and related public safety roles
Additional Sanctions
Before the misconduct hearing, Thomas underwent reflective practice to confront his failings — including not declaring the beauty clinic as a business interest.
This case sends a clear message that the Met will swiftly act against officers who betray public trust, on or off duty.
