A murder investigation has been launched after a man was shot and killed in broad daylight outside a busy Costco superstore in Croydon.
The horrifying incident unfolded around 7pm on Thursday evening (June 19) in Imperial Way, near the Purley Way retail area. Emergency services raced to the scene after reports of gunfire, with police and ambulances quickly swarming the large car park.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos as shoppers fled for safety. One lorry driver, who was making a delivery at the time, recounted his shock as the brutal attack unfolded just metres away.

“I was dropping my load at the rear of the store when I saw a man running across the car park. Out of nowhere, another man opened fire – bang, bang. He shot him as he was trying to escape,” he said.
“People were screaming and diving for cover. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”
The victim, believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics. His identity has not yet been released.
