Sussex Police have issued an update on the fire at Wendy’s restaurant in Brighton on October 31, clarifying details amid widespread speculation and misinformation. Four 12-year-old girls sustained severe burn injuries during the incident and remain in hospital receiving treatment.

In a statement, police urged the public to avoid speculation, highlighting the profound impact the incident has had on the young victims and their families. “We urge the public not to speculate about this incident, which has had a profound impact on the children involved,” the statement read.

Police also addressed misinformation circulating on social media, noting that a young girl wrongly named as involved in the incident was not present at the scene. Authorities emphasised that there is no evidence of any third-party involvement, and the incident has been confirmed as non-suspicious by both fire services and police officers who attended. Additionally, it has been confirmed that no fireworks were involved.
