About 40 firefighters swooped in at 6:06 am today to tackle a massive fire at a car workshop in Vicarage Park, Plumstead.

Six fire engines battled the inferno until it was finally under control by 8:18 am. Dramatic photos show the workshop blazing brightly in the pre-dawn darkness, with thick smoke pouring into the sky. Blue emergency lights lit up nearby Plumstead Road, which remains closed as crews mop up.

Firefighters From Five Stations Join the Fight

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed the scale of the response. “We received 11 calls about the fire early this morning,” they said. “Crews from Plumstead, East Greenwich, Eltham, Erith, and Lee Green were dispatched, including a 32-metre turntable ladder from East Greenwich.”

The spokesperson added: “Firefighters worked swiftly to bring the blaze under control by 8:18am and will stay on scene through the morning to fully extinguish hotspots.”

Cause of Fire Still a Mystery

The fire caused part of the building to collapse, sending thick smoke into the air. Authorities say the cause is currently unknown and investigations are ongoing.
