Conservative MP Patrick Spencer has been charged with two counts of sexual assault following alleged incidents involving two women at a private members' club in central London.

Alleged Incidents at the Groucho Club

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed today that the charges stem from two separate incidents alleged to have occurred in August 2023 at the Groucho Club in Soho — a well-known venue frequented by celebrities, artists, and politicians.

Mr Spencer, 47, who has represented Central Suffolk and North Ipswich since 2019, is now scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates' %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_0%% on Monday.

A spokesperson for the CPS stated:

"The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Patrick Spencer MP with two counts of sexual assault, following evidence submitted in %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_1%% to two complaints made by separate women."

 Legal Process and Political Repercussions

While Mr Spencer has not yet publicly responded to the %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_2%%, the Conservative Party is expected to issue a statement imminently.

It is currently unclear whether Mr Spencer will have the party whip %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_3%% appearance. Under parliamentary standards, any MP charged with a serious offence can be subject to internal %%UKNIP_ANCHOR_4%% pending judicial outcomes.
