£20,000 Reward Offered in Witness Appeal for Chiswick Murder Investigation
Overview
A £20,000 reward is being offered for information that could help identify and prosecute the person or persons responsible for the brutal murder of 75-year-old John Murray, who was fatally assaulted in his Chiswick home last year.
Mr Murray, a father, grandfather, and much-loved neighbour, was attacked at his home in Carlton Road on Sunday, 12 October 2024. Despite the valiant efforts of emergency services, he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
Nine months on, Detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command are renewing their appeal for witnesses, urging anyone with information to come forward. They are also asking local residents to review any CCTV, dashcam, or video doorbell footage from the time of the attack that could contain vital evidence.
£20,000 Crimestoppers Reward
The independent charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £20,000 for information given anonymously that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for Mr Murray’s murder.
Detective’s Appeal
Detective Chief Inspector Brian Howie, who is leading the investigation, said:
“John was a father, grandfather, and a well-liked neighbour who was brutally murdered in his own home. We are making progress, but we need the public’s help to get justice for John and his family.
“Did you see or hear anything unusual around Carlton Road on the evening of Sunday, 12 October? Any signs of a disturbance, a struggle, or suspicious behaviour? Even the smallest piece of information could be crucial.
“If you knew John, did you notice a change in him in the days or weeks leading up to his death? Please, come forward and help us bring closure to his grieving family.”
Family’s Emotional Plea
In a heartfelt statement, John’s family said:
“As a family, we are still struggling to understand why someone would harm a defenceless 75-year-old man in his own home. We cannot move on with our lives until we have answers. To anyone with information, please come forward and help the police get justice for our family.”
Neighbours Speak of Shock
John’s neighbours, who described him as a “pillar of the community”, have echoed the family’s plea.
“This is a close-knit community. All of us are reeling from the shock of John’s murder. He was a lovely man, always friendly, and had been part of the heart of this neighbourhood for years. We can’t imagine who would do something so horrific. We hope this appeal will bring the answers we’re all desperate for.”
Crimestoppers Statement
Alexa Loukas, London Regional Manager at Crimestoppers, said:
“John’s murder was a deeply shocking crime that has left a family devastated and a community searching for answers. Someone out there knows what happened. We are urging anyone with information—no matter how small—to come forward anonymously. This is your opportunity to do the right thing and help secure justice for John’s family.”
