On Sunday, July 10, police received a report that a man in his twenties had been raped by another man in an area off Walpole Road between Morrisons and the junction with Spring Garden Lane.
Officers arrested Cihat Mert, 25, of Forton Road in Gosport, after conducting an investigation. He was later charged with rape.
He was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court (Thursday 21 July).
