Arrests Made Following Assault on Teenage Girl in Bridgwater – UKNIP

Police have made several arrests after a teenage girl was assaulted by a man wielding a knife on the canal path behind Morrisons in Bridgwater. The incident took place shortly after 8 pm Thursday night prompting a swift response from emergency services.

The victim was promptly transported to the hospital via ambulance, where she received treatment for a small cut to her neck. Fortunately, her injury is not considered life-threatening or life-changing.

Within 20 minutes of the assault, a 26-year-old man was apprehended from an address in Bridgwater on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm (GBH) with intent. Subsequently, the same individual was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence after verbally abusing an officer while in police custody.

In addition to the main suspect, two other men, aged 31 and 37, were arrested from the same Bridgwater property on suspicion of assisting an offender. All three individuals are currently in custody as the investigation progresses.

Neighbourhood Inspector Michael Griffiths expressed his concern over the shocking attack on a young girl and acknowledged the community’s apprehension. He assured the public that a thorough investigation into the incident would be conducted, emphasizing that it appears to be an isolated incident.

Law enforcement authorities have already reviewed CCTV footage and identified several witnesses who will be interviewed to gather statements regarding the incident. In the meantime, the local neighbourhood policing team will conduct high-visibility patrols in the area to provide reassurance to the community. Inspector Griffiths encouraged individuals with specific concerns to approach the officers on patrol.
