Anthony Chieke, 56, has been slammed with a four-year jail sentence following a brazen burglary spree in Reading and Slough. The man from Mount Street, Westminster, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday (8/10) – despite refusing to show his face in court.

Guilty in Absence: Jury Unanimous

The jury found Chieke guilty on all counts while he stayed away. He faces two burglary charges, plus criminal damage, dangerous driving, and driving while disqualified.

Mosque Smash and Cash Theft

Last October, between 9pm Saturday and 6.30am Sunday, Chieke targeted Abu Bakr Mosque on Oxford Road. The thug smashed donation boxes, nicked around £1,000 in cash, and stole keys to break into the CCTV room.

  • He sprayed white paint over security cameras
  • Damaged cables linked to the CCTV hard drive
  • Left his DNA at the scene, sealing his fate

Thames Valley Police hunted him down after the DNA evidence emerged, leading to his conviction. Justice served – and the community can breathe a little easier.
